Special Process Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer/Metallurgist

Qualified candidate will be in charge of performing audits on Heat Treating and training and mentoring others on fundamentals of heat treating. Will also check and calibrate equipment.
Will determine root cause of quality issues, complete internal and external audits, read and understand technical drawings, write processes and use APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA and SPC.
Metallurgical experience required.
Bachelors degree in Engineering required.

The special process quality engineer will be responsible for ensuring quality for internal/external special processes steel making, forging, heat treatment, electroplating, coating and NDT.
Will coordinate special process related quality audits, internally and with third-party vendors.
Develop and validate special process related PPAP and initial production packages.
Work directly with special process vendors to address issues and improve quality.
Oversee in-house heat treatment quality and metallurgical testing. Participate in the correction of production and quality issues.
Utilize root cause analysis and take appropriate corrective/preventative actions to ensure closure of audit findings or quality problems.
Develop and maintain standards, drawings and other documents to communicate special process requirements and specifications internally and to third-party vendors.
Work directly with staff to aid in warranty analysis, special testing, and other areas where metallurgical expertise is required.
Work with internal manufacturing and engineering departments to make samples and collect data. Implement improvements when necessary.
Work directly with the production departments to address internal and vendor special process related quality issues.
Train and mentor heat treat personnel on fundamental principles of heat treatment.
Oversee magnetic particle inspection and ensure that procedures follow industry standards. Attain level II certification and train level I inspectors.
Ensure that laboratory and other equipment are regularly checked and calibrated for proper operation and perform routine and preventative tasks.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment by utilizing 5S methodology.
Analyze and validate the quality of product made from special processes such as steel bars, heat treated parts.
Apply metallurgical knowledge to determine root cause of quality issues.
Complete internal and external audits.
Complete corrective actions, from root cause analysis to final validation.
Read and understand technical drawings.
Use automotive quality core tools APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, and SPC.
Develop standards and drawings related to special processes.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor s degree in engineering is a must; materials science engineering degree is strongly preferred.
3 to 5 years of special process manufacturing experience strongly preferred; heat treatment experience is a plus.
Spanish or Japanese is a plus
